Yesterday, Jackson and I had an absolute blast as we ran in the Color in Motion 5k at Reliant Park.
Though VERY messy, it was such a unique and incredible experience for me. Jackson loved the colored powders most of all, though at times he seemed confused as to why being messy was suddenly so acceptable…when normally we immediately clean up when dirty.
One amazing thing about the time we had at this 5k was that even though this event was loud, full of people and noises and total sensory overload….Jackson did AWESOME!
He was such a trooper and did not have a single tantrum or moment of panic.
I absolutely love that the more bold I get with taking him places…the better he gets at tolerating things and staying calm. Sharing one of a kind experiences like this one with Jackson means so much to me…because I love seeing the expressions on his face and the delight in his eyes as we laugh and play.
A note for those planning to attend their first “colored powder” run soon…it gets on EVERYTHING.
Go prepared with a complete change of clothes for everyone running, garbage bags to hold your running clothes (strip down and change before you get in the car), baby wipes and bottled water are helpful for getting stubborn color off of face and hands.
If you don’t want the color to stain your scalp or blonde hair…a bandana is a great idea. Bandanas are also good for covering your face while you run.
The colored powder is food grade cornstarch with dye….so it is safe, even if you get it in your eyes or mouth.
A big thank you to the nice folks who let me photograph them for this post…I wanted to give you guys a full idea of what people looked like after the run since the teams throwing the color at each station during the run seemed to take it easy on me since I had Jackson in the stroller (which I very much appreciated by the way).
I’m happy to mark this item off My Life List now…and in the last week I thought up several new items to add to it…so if you haven’t glanced at it this year….you should.
The next few months of the year are going to be a big adventure and I’m so excited!
I hope you’ll be along for the ride. 🙂
