Our trip to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration 2014 #disneysmmoms

After conferences I always find myself a bit discombobulated. I come home tired, but so full of creative goodness and warmth after a weekend brimming with opportunities for professional growth and sweet moments with those close to me. Disney Social Media Moms 2014 was no exception.

Not only did I get to spend several days with some of my FAVORITE friends and colleagues from the online world, but I got to share it with my mom and Jackson too, which was pretty spectacular.

After attending the conference in 2012, I knew to expect a lot from the sessions this time around. I was most excited about hearing from Leslie Kay who is the creator behind Disney Bound, where she puts together outfits inspired by Disney characters and movies using her own clothes.

And I’d be lying if I told you it wasn’t HUGELY exciting to hear from the owner of Grumpy Cat.

It was pretty awesome because during the conference they revealed Grumpy Cat’s new #disneyside photo, which is hilarious, of course!

I also really enjoyed hearing from Tom Staggs, Chairman at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, talk about all the exciting things that are in the works for Disney Parks all around the world. Disney Shanghai is set to open in 2015. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at WDW in Orlando will open VERY soon, and Avatarland which will be in Animal Kingdom at Disney World is under construction now.

For someone who loves Disney vacations as much as I do, it was thrilling to hear about all these coming attractions direct from the man in charge of it all!

As each new speaker graced the stage, I became more and more inspired. Maxine Clark, founder of Build-a-Bear workshop talked about the importance of believing in your dreams while giving everything you have to pursue them. I was most touched by Donald Driver, Former NFL player, when he talked about not giving up even when faced with what looks like insurmountable odds.

I left the conference day feeling so full of joy and ready to push myself further in business to reach my full potential.

And then of course, it was time to enjoy the parks with my family. And really, in my mind, there is no place better than Disney to do that (to see photos and posts from our past Disney Vacations just click HERE). Disney brings out the best in Jackson and so I’ve made it a point to take Disney vacations as often as possible.

Before I left for this trip, people told me not to expect Disneyland to be the same as WDW (which was my first experience with any Disney park). And they were right, it’s not the same. But it’s no less magical.

The Disneyland Resort is much smaller than WDW and it makes getting around very easy, especially if you stay at a Disney hotel. If you are looking for a great starter Disney vacation, or one that will be easy on small children, people with special needs, or grandparents I’d say Disneyland is the perfect place. My mom just went on and on about how much more she loved Disneyland on this trip because she wasn’t exhausted at the end of the day like when we went to WDW.

Of course, she was truly in heaven at Disneyland, having visited with her father as a little girl just a few years after the park opened. On the last day of our trip we headed over to see Sleeping Beauty Castle and as we crossed the bridge she stopped in one particular spot and teared up a little. She looked at me and said “I remember sitting right here and taking a photo with my Daddy.”

To me, that is the true magic of a Disney Vacation. It is the lasting legacy of family vacation memories so clear, so bright, so strong… that even 20, 30, sometimes 50 years later those who lived in those magic moments feel like they happened just yesterday.

Thank you to the entire Disney Social Media Moms team for allowing me to share in the magic with my family! We will not soon forget it!

P.S. More photos from the parks, Disneyland Travel Tips, and my experience doing the Run Disney Fun Run into Carsland coming soon!

Disclosure: I paid for my conference ticket to attend this event but Disney deeply discounted my stay, park tickets, and more during the conference. They also threw in amazing little Disney “extras” along the way. I was not compensated or asked to write this post but chose to on the basis of my amazing experience. These are my own, honest opinions. I only recommend products and services to my readers that I feel are trustworthy and that I can stand behind with pride.
