This year Jackson was lucky enough to get a ticket to attend a Waves of Impact surf camp in Galveston. They offered both a Friday and Saturday camp this year, and the Saturday camp filled up less than 15 minutes after registration opened.
Waves of Impact is a charitable organization that offers free surf camps to people with special needs and wounded veterans. They have an amazing team of volunteers who have spent years surfing and help to offer one of a kind experiences to people like Jackson, who might not otherwise have an opportunity.
One of the nicest things about this experience for me was that I got to watch him experience this from afar (which is not something that happens often, I’m usually right in the middle of the action with Jackson for safety reasons). It was such a treat to see him beaming each time he successfully rode in on a wave.
It took quite a bit of convincing from the surfers to get Jackson to stand on the board. At first he REALLY didn’t want to. But after some reassurance and giggles…he finally pulled it off!
And then I ugly cried in front of everyone…and it didn’t matter. Because Jackson was surfing.
I cannot thank Waves of Impact enough for providing us with this magical experience! It was the highlight of our month!
